Construction began last month on a combat ship being built for the U.S. Navy right here in Wisconsin by Marinette Marine. It will be commissioned as the USS Milwaukee.
The ship that will become the USS Milwaukee is slated to be delivered to the Navy in 2014.
The ship is a Littoral Combat Ship, or LCS, which is primarily designed to operate closer to the shoreline for the purposes of supporting military troops on the ground and hunting for submarines.
