Anti Acne Diet Plans - Do They Really Help Eliminate Zits

By Sean T Saunders

Over many millennia the human body evolved to need a unique balance of hormones, chemical compounds, enzymes and a host of other dietary aspects so as to function properly. When the balance between these many elements is disrupted for any reason then the body takes action so as to correct nutritional imbalances. Over eighty percentage of all teenagers during puberty will get some degree of the skin disorder acne and a much smaller fraction of adults will have to deal with it too. Females that are expectant or having menstrual cycles also get acne. An anti acne diet can help the skin.

An anti acne diet can be roughly categorized into two groups; those that help that encourage the skin disorder and those that help to prevent acne. The substances in the food a person consumes can have a big impact on how the body reacts to it. If the body reacts in the wrong way the acne problem could get aggravated. If the food has ingredients with antioxidant and fatty acid properties then acne can be improved. In order to understand how an anti acne diet can help it is first essential to know a little about the causes of the skin disease.

Acne is a result of plugged up pores in the skin layers caused by an excess of sebum oil as well as impurities like dead skin cells. Located in the subcutaneous layer of the skin are the skin oil glands that naturally produce sebum oil. The oil usually travels up through the hair follicles and out through the skin pores to keep the skin lubricated and supple. Sometimes excessive amount of the oil is produced and it can mix with impurities and clog up skin pores and this produces a perfect breeding ground for acne bacteria to thrive and cause infection. Certain foods prompt the body to produce sebum oil.

Foods that are high glycemic, such as refined sugars, can cause a rapid rise in blood sugar levels in your body. In reaction to this rise in the blood sugar content, the pancreas will begin to secrete huge amounts of insulin and the male hormone testosterone in an effort to balance the blood sugar levels. The secretion of these hormones in the body induces the sebaceous glands to produce excess sebum oil, which in turn could cause an acne skin infection. Dairy food items such as milk, cheese, yogurt and butter contain large quantities of the female hormone estrogen because they come from lactating cows. This can cause acne outbreaks.

An anti acne diet needs to be composed of healthy and wholesome foods that have Omega-3 fatty acids and plenty of antioxidants contained in their ingredients. An effective anti acne diet should also include all the necessary nutrients, vitamins and minerals which keep the body in good health. A healthy body which receives good nutrition will have clear and healthy skin. Diets to combat acne should include plenty of fish, whole grain products and fresh vegetables. Taking a mineral and vitamin supplement can make sure the body receives all the essential nourishment that are needed to keep skin clear of acne.
