Saving Elderly Lives With Walk In Tubs
You might not know this, but the regular bathtub is dangerous and life-threatening. I know this might sound like a tabloid headline, but it is absolutely true. A lot of us take bathing and showering for granted. But let me assure you that the elderly and those with injury or disability do not take to this concept too kindly. It is quite dangerous to use the regular bathtub if you have any mobility issues of any kind.
I mean here's a very simple illustration - think about how people get in and out of the tub? If you think about it, the process involves jumping over a tall obstacle, and then landing in a tight and constricted space. Then, you use both hands to shower, meaning none of your hands are available to use to support or hold onto stuff on the side as well.
To an elderly person there are a lot of challenges built into the classical bathtub concept. This is why some people have invented different clever solutions. For example, did you know that there is such a thing as a "bathtub lift"? This is a special lift that helps people in and out of the tub.
The cheapest and most popular option however seem to be the "grab on bars". These allow people to get in and out of the tub by grabbing onto to these bars. While inside the tub they can also hold onto to these bars for additional safety and support while showering.
A third option is getting so called bathtub stools which allow people to sit down in the tub and to shower while seated. However, most people prefer getting a walk in tub, because it combines all three into one. It offers all the safety and security features you want in one single all-in-one solution. These don't come cheap, but most people say walk in tubs are well worth the investment.
