Why Niche Marketing Can Be Lucrative

By Domenic Shakir

If you have spent anytime looking for ways to generate an income online, it is likely that you will have heard the phrase, "niche marketing". Niche marketing not a difficult concept to understand since it merely refers to a market sub-division where people are looking to buy particular products or services who can be targetted online. A niche in the market can be a relatively unexploited and profitable resource because there are more buyers than sellers or, in other words, fewer competitors for your business. We will now look at how to become a niche marketer and build your own lucrative online business.

Firstly, you'll need to find a good niche and the quickest way to do that is to investigate the possiblities using online resources. For instance, Amazon and Clickbank are two popular online marketplaces and if you navigate their sites you will begin to see how many niches there are to choose from. At these sites you will be able to browse through the product categories to find ones that are selling stongly and make a short list to be refined at the next stage.

Once you have several potential markets to check out, you need to begin to do some keyword research to determine if there are niches you can compete in and that have the potential to generate you some money. You don't have to dive in and buy keyword research software because there are free alternatives. A popular free online keyword research tool is the one offered by Google. The purpose of keyword research is to find the longer keyword phrases that are being looked for by reasonable numbers of people in the search engines. These words have decent traffic to make it worthwhile targetting them, and ought to have fewer competition in you niche.

As with your initial research, you will want to record the keywords you find and then check these to see if you would be able to compete for the specific terms. This is ordinarily done by putting the keyword phrase in Google's search bar and placing quotation marks around it as this gives you the amount of sites you are competing against for that term. Essentially, you want to find keywords that have fewer competition that still get a modest number of searches. An added advantage of this is that several of these terms can be extremely specific and as such, you may see people that are ready to purchase rather than those merely searching for information.

The important initial step of market research is finished and now you can create a blueprint for your new web site based on the keywords you have selected. Many people, who are not especially knowledgeable about putting up sites, use the Wordpress blog platform to get their first website up and running right away. Wordpress web sites are easily crawled by the search engines. If you can obtain a domain name the same as one of the keywords you would like to target then this can help your web site to achieve higher search engine rankings. Avoid using trademarked names as companies may well object and make you change it.

After you have optimized your web site and start to see traffic numbers increase, you can then consider ways to make money from your visitors either for a steady income or with a view of selling the website on later.
