County Executive Abele Attends Back-To-School Festival at King Park

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele and Interim Parks Director John Dargle will attend and greet attendees of the Back-To-School Festival at King Park.

The Festival will feature carnival games, gospel performances, and a basketball competition. About 5,000 Milwaukee-area youths will receive backpacks filled with school supplies at the 19th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Back-To-School Festival on Saturday, August 10th, in King Park, 1531 W. Vliet St. The festival runs from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For families with back-to-school budgets that are stretched thin, the festival highlight is the free backpack and school-supply giveaway. Families may register for the giveaway from noon-2 p.m. Children must be present for both the registration and the backpack distribution at 4 p.m.

“This yearly tradition brings families and friends together as students prepare to go back to school” Abele said. “This event shows the community can really come together to make sure our children get off to a good start in the upcoming school year.”
