New Milwaukee County Program Helps Veterans in Their Job Search

MILWAUKEE – Military veterans are getting a new tool to help them in their job hunt: a free flash drive loaded with their military service record, resume and other important job hunting documents. The flash drive program is the latest service added by Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele to help veterans across Wisconsin.

“We are always looking for ways to add services and program for veterans. We’ve heard from veterans and employers that one of the biggest roadblocks vets face in their job search is having all of their important documents in one place; this helps solve that problem,” County Executive Abele said. “This program will especially help low-income veterans who might not have a personal computer or easy access to a computer.”

Milwaukee County purchased 300 flash drives (picture below) and another 2000 flash drives were donated by Master Lock. So far, more than 65 veterans have pre-registered and will receive their flash drives at the 11th Milwaukee County Veterans Job Fair on Thursday, March 6 from 9am-1pm at the War Memorial Center.  The Job Fair will feature a record number of employers, more than 70 companies, looking to interview and hire military veterans.

The job fair is run by the Milwaukee County Veterans Service Office.  Additional coordination and support for the event is provided by the Zablocki VA Medical Center and veterans employment representatives of the DWD Office of Veterans Services.
