Review of Jackson's Blue Ribbon Pub

Jackson's Blue Ribbon Pub, Jackson's Blue Ribbon Pub on Bluemound
A few weeks back, I joined my classmates at Jackson's Blue Ribbon Pub on 113th and Bluemound in Milwaukee, right around the Brookfield and Wauwatosa borders.

We had just completed our coursework for our master's degrees a little further up the road at the Brookfield campus of Cardinal Stritch University, and we were looking to celebrate.

It was my first, and has remain my only (but not for long!) visit to Jackson's Blue Ribbon Pub, but I was impressed enough to want to write about it and recommend this place to others.

That evening, as I was looking at the menu, I decided I had eaten enough burgers, chicken sandwiches, fried fish and seafood, etc. in recent weeks. I was looking for something different. I found it in the portobello sandwich.

It was served with cole slaw and a pickle spear, and I opted for the fries among other options. Well, everything was delicious, but the portobello sandwich in particular really impressed me. It was really flavorful, and was as big and heavy as a half-pound burger. Add to it friendly waitstaff, plenty of drink options and specials, a great atmosphere, and a clean and roomy outdoor patio area, and Jackson's Blue Ribbon Pub is definitely a winner. Looking forward to getting back there soon.

Looks like they have a place in downtown Milwaukee, as well.

Small Business Saturday Milwaukee 2012

Don't forget, Small Business Saturday is fast approaching! This year, 2012, Small Business Saturday falls on November 24th.

It's a day to patronize small businesses in our communities, which, when combined, truly are the driving economic force in the country, and by far the leader in job creation. In a way, I hate the concept of Small Business Saturday, solely because I feel we should do our best to remember, appreciate, and support small businesses the other 364 days of the year. But then again, the same argument can be applied to Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc. Hell, it can even be applied to Valentine's and Sweetest Days. I suppose, though, sometimes we all need those blatant reminders, me included.

That being said, Milwaukeeans, or, in my case, fellow metro-Milwaukee suburbanites: do you know of any hidden gems and best-kept secrets (in the form of small businesses) around the greater Milwaukee area that we should check out this coming Saturday, November 24, Small Business Saturday 2012?

Please share your suggestions with all of us in the Comments section below! Tell us the name of the business, where they are located, and give a good sentence or two on what makes them great or unique. It can be a locally-owned restaurant or deli, coffeehouse, boutique or specialty shoppe, hardware store, your favorite local watering hole, the auto repair garage you've been going to for years, etc., etc., etc. And it can be any small business in the metro-Milwaukee area. We're not limiting it to Milwaukee proper.

Thanks for sharing your suggestions with all of us, thanks for your continued readership, and thanks in advance for helping to make Small Business Saturday 2012 such a special, successful day for our hardworking small businesses across greater Milwaukee!

All the Best,

--Aaron Robertson, president, Intrepid Innovations Inc.
