CREATE Awareness Event, 10/7/12
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CREATE Awareness Event Milwaukee, WI October 7, 2012
The CREATE Awareness Event is a community benefit intended to raise money for the 3 children left behind by Maggie Litwicki. She was stabbed to death by her boyfriend in their Greenfield home on July 14, 2012. 100% of all proceeds from donations, the Silent Auction, the Live Auction, and artist performances will benefit the children. In addition to being a community-powered fundraiser, this event will raise awareness about the prevalence of domestic violence in our society, via several booths featuring non-profit community agencies with information, resources, and presenters.
Approximately 65 companies, artists, musicians, and individual volunteers are uniting to put this event on for Maggie's family and the community at Cafe Centraal, from 3-10 PM on Sunday, October 7 2012. Some of the participating companies are local, such as The Marcus Corporation, The Milwaukee Admirals. Local Artists who are showcasing their paintings include: Nicholas Mork, James Kloiber, Christie Gabriel, Ruthy Boehm, and Neda Stevic, and some of the local musicians include T.H. Taylor and Ashly Jordan. Boutiques such as BVEN Boutique and LUCI are donating gift certificates. Even businesses from other parts of the country are participating, such as The Amargosa Opera House and Hotel in Death Valley, CA. During the day, Artists will be creating paintings LIVE, which audience members will be able to bid on during a LIVE Auction. All other gift certificates, paintings, and other items will be available all day and night in the Silent Auction, and a raffle. Community agencies will be on hand to give short presentations regarding their services and resources, so that audience members learn how to help someone in a dangerous relationship. Live music begins at 5 PM. Maggie's family and 3 children will be in attendance as well.
This event is not only intended as a benefit to help the 3 parentless children currently being raised by their grandparents (one is autistic), but it is a powerful community response against domestic violence. The community is coming together in support of the family and to stand against domestic violence. The ultimate goal of this event is not to only raise funds for the children, but to create the awareness regarding domestic violence statistics and red flags in relationships which could ultimately save another person's life, instead of them becoming a statistic like Maggie Litwicki.
