Harvest at the Homestead, Saturday, 10/13/12

Greetings from the Stahl-Conrad Homestead,

Our 9th market of the season is this Saturday, Oct. 13th from 8am to Noon. This is our 2nd to last market of the season (last one is on Oct. 27th). 

MANAGER RETIRING:  It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing after nine years of managing the market, I will be stepping down at the end of this season. With my absence, the market will likely need someone or a group of people to step forward to manage it if the market is to continue next year. Attendance has been down. If you enjoy having a market at the Homestead, and wish it to continue, I encourage you to attend the last two markets to show your support. If any of you are interested in helping manage and grow the market, please contact me before the end of the month. 

PREPARED FOODS:  Sweet Somethings (baked goods), Friends of the Hales Corners Pool (fresh brewed hot & iced coffee, and one pound bags), and Gemma Rae's Cheesecake Cafe (located in Hales Corners), and possibly a Wildtree vendor. 

PRODUCE:  Come early for the best selections. Expect to see Hack Farms, Ma V. Cha, Tshengzoo Lor, and Viola's Honey along with Ruegsegger Farms, who in addition to produce and baked/canned items will have a variety of frozen Wisconsin produced meats. CRAFTS:  Hummer Hill Wood Crafts will be selling their beautifully hand crafted wood products. They create a variety of items that make great gifts.

HOMESTEAD EXHIBIT: The Stahl-Conrad Homestead has put together a new exhibit this year, "Toys of Yesteryear", which will be open during all 2012 markets. This exhibit features treasured childhood mementos.

Harvest at the Homestead, Saturday, 6/16/12

Greetings from the Stahl-Conrad Homestead,

Our first market of the season is this Saturday June 16th.

NEW EXHIBIT: The Stahl-Conrad Homestead has put together a new exhibit this year, "Toys of Yesteryear", which will be open during all 2012 markets. This exhibit features treasured childhood mementos.

VENDORS: Most of our produce vendors from last year are returning, including Hack Farms, Ma V. Cha, Tshengzoo Lor, and Viola's Honey along with a new vendor 'Ruegsegger Farms' who in addition to produce and baked/canned items will have a variety of frozen Wisconsin produced meats. You can also pre-order from their website: www.naturalmeats.org

Sweet Somethings (baked goods), and the Friends of the Hales Corners Pool (fresh brewed coffee and one pound bags) should once again grace the market, along with baked goods from Gemma Rae's Cheesecake Cafe (located in Hales Corners).


Handmade Art and Craft vendors at the first market of the season include Curly Fleece Sheep Farm, Optimist Theater (flower garlands).

LIVE MUSIC will be provided this Saturday by Brenna Beecroft.

PRODUCE THIS WEEK: I'm not up to speed yet on what specific produce will be available from our vendors this Saturday, but I expect to see:


Strawberries
Onions
Variety of lettuces and greens

Garlic
Peas
Herbs, such as cilantro, parsley, basil, dill, etc.
among other early crops such as asparagus and broccoli....

Last Stahl-Conrad Homestead Farmers Market of 2011 Today!

Greetings from the Stahl-Conrad Homestead,

Our last market of the season is this Saturday October 22th from 8am-Noon. The forecast indicates great weather for this late season market. However if the weather doesn't cooperate on Saturday, a number of venders will just move into the barn for more comfortable shopping!

Winter Produce: This is your last chance to stock up on storable produce such as winter squashes (I love butternut squash myself), pumpkins, garlic, apples, etc, or purchase a larger quantity of end of season items for freezing or canning to carry you through the upcoming winter months. I'll have some recipes and ideas for utilizing these late season squashes and pumpkins.

Jerry's Orchard will be back for probably the last time, since he is retiring from the orchard business. We will greatly miss him at the market. Stop by and choose from a variety of apple varieties.

Hummer Hill Wood Crafts will be on hand with a number of items which make great holiday gifts.

Beauty by Brenna will also have items which make great gifts and/or you can you to pamper yourself in the coming colder months.
Sue Ski's Farm should also be on hand with Worm Casting Fertilizer. 

SNAP / QWEST: We are now able to accept SNAP funds (ie. Qwest Card) at the market. We have an electronic (EBT) point of sale (POS) unit in the kitchen of the house where SNAP recipients can obtain wooden tokens to purchase eligible foods at the market. Just ask for me and I can help you obtain the tokens. We are NOT able to accept Credit/Debit purchases at this time. As always, vendors also accept WIC and Senior FMNP (farmers market nutrition program) vouchers.

It features the agricultural history of Hales Corners and the surrounding area. Using the numerous artifacts donated by Lloyd Conrad and other members and friends of the Homestead, the exhibit will recall the early days of the village—a time when Hales Corners was a farm community that supplied the growing city of Milwaukee.

Stahl-Conrad Homestead Farmers Markets

Greetings from the Stahl-Conrad Homestead,  Our 9th market of the season is this Saturday October 8th from 8am-Noon.

After this week, there is only one more market left this season (10/22).

SPECIALTY BOOTH: This week it's APPLES, APPLES, APPLES.  The Conrad family will be on hand to demonstrate apple pressing on an old apple press. Come take a turn on the machine and help make cider.

I'll also be providing some musical ambiance again this week (guitar/vocals) periodically between 9am and 11am.

Stahl-Conrad Homestead Farmers Market 9/17/11

Greetings from the Stahl-Conrad Homestead,

Our 7th market of the season is this Saturday September 3rd from 8am-Noon. Only three more markets left this season (9/17, 10/8, 10/22). I expect this to be our biggest one of the year!

SNAP / QWEST: We are now able to accept SNAP funds (ie. Qwest Card) at the market. We have an electronic (EBT) point of sale (POS) unit in the kitchen of the house where SNAP recipients can obtain wooden tokens to purchase eligible foods at the market. We are NOT able to accept Credit/Debit purchases at this time.

SPECIALTY BOOTH: This week we will have an Aurora Registered Dietitian providing meal planning ideas to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet. Fruit & Veggies - More Matters!

Slow Food $5 Challenge - Soup Sale: Slow Food WiSE will be selling locally sourced soup for $10/quart (meal for two) as part of Slow Food's $5 Challenge to help take back the 'value meal' by enjoying a slow food meal that costs $5 or less. For more ideas visit: www.SlowFoodUSA.org/5Challenge

Stahl-Conrad Homestead Farmers Markets

Greetings from the Stahl-Conrad Homestead,  
Our 6th market of the season is this Saturday September 3rd from 8am-Noon.

SPECIALTY BOOTH: This week Master Gardener Jack Williams will return with home gardening tips. Stop by and tap his knowledge. I will also have information on the Eat Local Challenge. The Challenge takes place over the first two weeks of September, and its goal is to encourage us all to takes steps toward eating (Delicious) locally produced foods.

I'll also be providing some musical ambiance this week (guitar/vocals).

NEW VENDORS: APPLES, APPLES, APPLES - Jerry's Orchard will be at the market this week for the first time this season.

REGULAR VENDORS:  Sweet Somethings tells me they will have pumpkin bars and monkey bread (new), along with their regular items. Wash it down with a coffee (hot or iced) from the Friends of the Hales Corners Pool. 

NON-FOOD VENDORS THIS WEEK: Beauty by Brenna returns, along with Wildtree, Hummer Hill Wood Crafts, and Earthbound's concrete leaf castings.
