The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported earlier this week that the Allen Edmonds Shoe Corp. is looking to start selling its high-end men's shoes in China sometime in the second quarter of next year, 2012. Armed with a new licensing agreement, Allen Edmonds is planning its first store in Shanghai. The Journal Sentinel reports that the deal could double the size of the company over the next decade, leading to the creation of jobs at its headquarters in Port Washington.
I was thrilled to read this news, and sincerely wish Allen Edmonds the best with this. With American manufacturing on the decline for a number of years now, it's really refreshing and encouraging to see a U.S.-based manufacturer expanding its operations here at home because of increased sales opportunities and demand abroad.
