Bucks' New Arena Deal Passed by State Senate, State Assembly Approves
By a 21-10 vote, the state Senate passed funding for the new Bucks arena two weeks prior, according to Mark Schaaf of the Journal Times. Bucks president Peter Feigin released a statement regarding the development after the Senate's approval.
Bucks President Discusses Financial Details of New Stadium, Threatens Relocation
The Milwaukee Bucks franchise was potentially up for relocation to a new city if the plans for a new arena fell through. However, the team and the state of Wisconsin have agreed upon a proposal for funding of a new arena in the city of Milwaukee.
Bucks president Peter Feigin stated the public needs to pay $250 million sooner rather than later or risk losing the team to either Seattle or Las Vegas, per Mark Kass of the Milwaukee Business Journal:
Feigin provided his thoughts on the tricky situation at a hearing with the Wisconsin legislature's Joint Finance Committee. Current Bucks owners Wes Edens, Marc Lasry and Jamie Dinan have combined with former owner Herb Kohl to pledge $250 million for the new arena and are seeking a match from the public. Of those funds, $93 million would come from the Wisconsin Center District in the form of new debt on Milwaukee citizens. The district wouldn't commence repaying the bonds until 13 years thereafter.
According to Feigin, the NBA only needs a $25 million profit to buy the Bucks and move them to one of the two aforementioned cities. Las Vegas is an untapped market, while Seattle has been starving for basketball since the SuperSonics became the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Bucks have a promising young nucleus emerging under second-year coach Jason Kidd. They made a surprise playoff appearance this past season and have the Milwaukee area excited about the future.

Exciting Developments for the Milwaukee Bucks
In case you didn't know, the Milwaukee Bucks are an American basketball team based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. They are part of the Central Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team was founded in 1968 as an expansion team, and played at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Going from strength to strength, the team is currently valued at $600 million according to Forbes. They have won one league title (1971), two conference titles (1971 and 1974), and 13 division titles (1971–74, 1976, 1980–86, 2001).
At a recent press conference, the Milwaukee Bucks and their design team announced a $1 billion plan for a sports and entertainment district to be built on the Park East property in downtown Milwaukee. "This is not just an arena," Bucks president Peter Feigin said. "This is a year-round vibrant urban community. This is built to attract jobs, investment and growth. We want to create the ripple effect across downtown and throughout the state...There's a tremendous amount of potential around us. We believe this will revitalize unused space, specifically the Park East, and begin to connect the city in every direction."
The owners of the Milwaukee Bucks have selected three architectural firms to design the basketball team's new downtown arena. Missouri-based Populous will serve as the lead agency on the design team. The company has worldwide experience designing arenas, stadiums, ballparks and convention centers. Populous has designed 15 NBA or NHL arenas, and is working on new projects in Quebec City and Las Vegas. Two local firms, HNTB and Eppstein Uhen, will also help design the Milwaukee arena. The companies employ nearly 300 Wisconsin residents and have worked on thousands of projects throughout the state. The Bucks are seeking financial support from state, county and city governments for the new arena. Gov. Scott Walker has proposed a state budget calling for $220 million in state bonds to help pay for the new arena. "We have a lot to work on," Feigin said. "We have a lot to do. We're going to continue to evolve these renderings, these pictures and these plans. We have a deep partnership with the city, with the county and with the state. We'll continue to work hand in hand for solutions. We want to accelerate the growth of this city in a very big way. We're extremely confident we are going to get this done and we are going to get this done in partnership with our friends at city hall, the county courthouse and the capitol."
Looking to the season ahead, there are more reasons for optimism for the Milwaukee Bucks' prospects. Head coach Jason Kidd enjoyed a reasonable campaign as a rookie head coach with the Brooklyn Nets in 2014. But Kidd excelled in Milwaukee despite facing numerous obstacles such as Jabari Parker's season-ending knee injury, Larry Sanders' unexpected retirement and a trade deadline that swapped Brandon Knight (who had been the team's most productive player) for Michael Carter-Williams. Despite these events, Milwaukee persevered and made the playoffs. The Bucks' addition of forward/center Greg Monroe via free agency adds the necessary firepower to expand on the team's success. The return of Parker in the lineup gives Kidd even more flexibility. Milwaukee should hope for at least 50 wins this season, which should keep fans happy. With the arena developments and all the associated activity, it's really an exciting time for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Rebuilding the Milwaukee Bucks
The key part to the rebuilding of the Milwaukee Bucks, now that the team has been sold, is putting the right players in place for years to come. These moves will give the community a name face it has lacked since players like Ray Allen, Glenn Robinson, and even one of the greatest NBA players ever, Oscar Robertson.
Now, the rebuilding part may be difficult, but it can be done with the right people in place and money to be spent. After finishing with the worst record in the NBA this season, the Bucks will have the most ping pong balls in the lottery draft on May 20th. The Bucks currently have the best odds to land the number one overall pick, with a 25% chance.
The fortunate part for the Bucks is the quality of talent in this draft, which includes Andrew Wiggins, Joel Embidd, Jabari Parker, and Julius Randle. Parker and Wiggins are both table setters and would provide the team with a key component to build a winning franchise. Along with the draft, the Bucks will need to look into free agency to start to build a contender, such as what we have seen with the Washington Wizards.
While LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony might be out of the question this off-season, the talent is still available for the team to add some quality players. Here is a list of some potential players the Bucks could go after this off-season:
Greg Monroe, Center – Monroe is a restricted free agent, but showed this off-season he is emerging as one of the NBA’s top young centers. Monroe averaged 15.2 points per game along with 9.3 rebounds for the Detroit Pistons.
Chris Bosh, Power Forward/Center – Bosh, along with fellow teammates James and Dwyane Wade, could elect to opt out. We have seen prior to joining the Miami Heat that Bosh could be a good player on a smaller team.
Luol Deng, Forward – Deng could be one of the most sought after free agents this off-season, but could be just what the Bucks need to make a great tandem with Brandon Knight and O.J. Mayo.
Pau Gasol, Power Forward – Gasol would give the team a big versatile power forward, but injury concerns might keep teams away from him this off-season. If healthy, Gasol has shown he can average 17-plus points and 9-plus rebounds a game.
These are just a few options that could help the team move in the right direction while the team builds through free agency.

The Milwaukee Bucks will enter the 2014-15 NBA season with a set of new owners at the helm. This comes after former U.S. Senator and owner Herb Kohl announced he had sold the team. Kohl sold the Bucks to a two-man ownership team that includes Marc Lasry and Wesley Edens in hopes of keeping the team in the city of Milwaukee for years to come.
Kohl, who purchased the team in 1985 for $18 million, was able to sell the franchise for $550 million. The Bucks, who have been in town since 1968, have been a staple of the community, and the sale will allow them to continue to be a driving force in the community. New owners Marc Lasry and Wesley Edens will put up $100 million towards a new multipurpose arena that will not only be the face of the team, but arguably the face of the city, as well.
Along with bringing a new arena to the city, the new owners have great visions for the team, one that includes a championship within the next five to ten seasons. As far as NBA experience, both have been on the record as fans of the game but no experience in the business. The positive note is both understand how to make money, as Edens cofounded the Fortress Investment Group that has over $61 billion in assets. His partner, Lasry, currently sits with over a billion dollars in net worth, making him one of the richest Americans.
