It's Not Difficult to Create Impressive Webpages

By Lindsey Morgan

An excellent website design seems to be the hallmark of any site that is successful and high quality. People land on a site for the first time and immediately pass judgment on something. We are visual and the first thing that happens is we get a feeling based on the site design. That is why this is so important to us as online marketers. So we will cover a few of the important website design topics that will make some kind of impact on your visitors.

Give your filenames, which are your webpages, names that actually inform people and bots about your pages. Doing this is mainly for Google, and while it will not necessarily have a huge impact on your rankings, it will help to some degree. But you do not want to use a secondary keyword in this instance; instead, make it the primary. Hyphens are the character to use when you are making your filenames. If you use no spaces and the words are next to each other the bots will not read them properly. This is a relatively small measure that may be useful for your visitors in addition to the search bots. If you want to see a simple design, just look at Google's homepage - the search engine you have seen a million times.

Remember that the more complex your design, the more difficult it will be to get right. Be careful that you do not make it impossible to add anything in the future. There are no absolutes with this one because we have seen great sites that were not really simple. Think about your monetization because that will usually entail extra graphics for ads and such. We do appreciate simplicity very much, but we are talking about sites for businesses we know nothing about.

Any time you place graphics on your site, be sure to fill out the alt tag in the HTML. You really should think about people with disabilities such as those with vision problems. By filling out the alt tag with a primary or secondary keyword phrase, you will score a few points. This is just a little SEO thing that people do with them, and that may or may not apply to you. Write a quick little blurb that tells what is in the picture. So do not just do this for one or two graphics but all of them.

Over time your site design is going to get better and will be more effective as you learn and make things better. The thing is that you need to begin with basic web design elements so that your site won't lack anything. Web design doesn't have to be that complicated but people tend to make it that way. If you want people to respond well to your site and get as many sales as possible and build a really good brand, you need to focus first on building a good foundation.
