SEO Tips for Websites

By Alexandre Pantillori

SEO stands for search engine optimization. It is the name for many different for increasing website traffic. There are numerous techniques for achieving this, some tend to be easier/less time consuming than others. In a few words, SEO increases your presence on search engines which increases your traffic numbers. The goal for all SEO is to get your website to appear as number one for searches.

A fantastic first step is to ensure your blog is already optimized correctly. Make sure you use the most appropriate meta keywords and meta descriptions so that search engines can spider your website accurately. This only needs to be done once, once it has been set upcorrectly you do not have to do it another time. Whatever your website is about make sure your description, title and keywords all relate and target the area of interest. The meta title and description will also be shown in search engine results so make sure it is correct.

Furthermore, make sure you write good, original content. Plagiarizing content that is not unique will mean you get marked down by search engines. Search engines are now highly developed and smart at offering users relevant content.

Building links to your site is the next step once you have optimized the website correctly. Search engines determine how good your site is by how many inbound links the site has. I.e., your website has many more links than another, search engines will rank you higher and you will get more traffic. If you write content that is keyword rich then this will happen naturally but it can be a long process. To speed up this process you may want to try some of the following techniques.

Firstly, submit content to article directories. These can sometimes be tough to get accepted by because they want good content but for every article you write and submit to you can get two or more links back to your website. Search engines really like this. SEO is kind of like a game - trying to get quality links from quality places.

Secondly, you are also able to manually build links to your website through blog comments and so on. Some blog owners will allow you to link back to your website with a dofollow link. Dofollow is the colloquial name given to links that search engines will take notice of, compared to nofollow links. Nofollow was created because SEO marketers used to spam/pay for links which meant you could increase traffic dishonestly. Nofollow basically means search engines will ignore the link and you will not get any SEO benefit from it. Why not spend some time finding blogs that will allow you to link to your site? This benefits the SEO of your website, increase your online presence and will allow you to network with your fellow bloggers with the blogosphere. The comments should be genuine and relevant to the content. Writing something along the lines of: please visit my home page will likely be disproved and you will have wasted time and effort. You should always be a genuine.

Furthermore, you may decide to use book marking services to bookmark to your site. You should not spam your blog, admins are good at spotting spammers. Similar to directories, you will receive a good link from a good quality site. Well established websites have greater weight given to them by search engines. Effectively this means you receive more SEO benefit from an established site than a newer site. In other words, a link from a popular online book marking website will give your site more benefits than a smaller website.

One last tip (although there are many more) is to submit your site to directories. They are sometimes difficult to setup but you can get a good inbound link for your website if you manage it. Many directories have high page rankings. Although note that there are usually various submission options. It is common for directories to offer different free and paid submission options. Generally they will be: paid, free with reciprocal links and simply free. Paying for links can be quite expensive but you will get fast tracked into the directory. Many of the higher ranked directories only offer paid for submissions. If you go for a free link then it can take months to get accepted. Reciprocal links are not necessarily beneficial for your SEO (these aren't given credence like one-way links). You may find that they are useful for referral traffic but for SEO they are not useful. http://www.rxseo.net

If you follow the above hints and tips then you should see an improvement in your search engine rankings. However you should also definitely be using services to monitor and report your SEO efforts and Internet traffic. This way you will be able to see what has the most benefit and what you can focus more on.
