Top Brewers Prospects To Keep An Eye On

Milwuakee Brewers top prospect Jimmy Nelson dominates over his first five starts. Nelson, who is currently pitching for the Nashville Sounds in Triple A, has thrown at least six innings in each start this season. Nelson headlines the list of top minor leaguers in the Brewers organization.

Nelson currently holds a 3-1 record along with a 1.97 earned run average in 32 innings pitched this season. In five starts, Nelson has struck out 31 batters, walked nine, and given up just seven earned runs while allowing opponents to hit .170. Nelson isn’t the only top prospect performing for the Brewers early this season.

Clint Coulter, the club’s twelfth ranked prospect and top catching prospect, is currently playing for the Single A Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. In 20 games this season, Coulter has 23 hits in 69 at bats and a .333 batting average. Coulter has six doubles, one triple, four home runs, and 17 RBIs, along with a.452 on base percentage.

David Goforth is the club's fourteenth top prospect. He has pitched well in relief for the Huntsville Stars, the club’s Double A team. In 10 games pitched this season, Goforth has one loss, six saves, and a 2.92 earned run average in 12.1 innings pitched. The only real concern early on is the five walks he has allowed.

Top prospects aren’t the only players performing well in the minors for the Brewers. Mike Fiers has pitched to a 4-0 record in four starts in Triple A. Fiers has formed a solid pitching tandem with Nelson for the Sounds this season. In his four starts, Fiers has pitched at least six innings in each ball game, totaling 26.2, with 36 strikeouts and a 1.01 earned run average.
